The Wessex GP Educational Trust (WGPET) was formed in 1990 to provide funding for educational events run by GP Tutors in Wessex. It is funded by subscriptions paid by its members and receives no public money.

Membership entitles members to attend as many WGPET underwritten educational events as they want. Most events run by GP Tutors in Wessex fall in this category. Members are also able to attend Wessex Faculty RCGP courses at a subsidised rate and may claim re-imbursment for part of the educational costs when attending 'out of area' events, subject to certain limits. In addition to this WGPET provides financial support to practice based education (PEAS) and small GP educational groups.
