Click the titles for more information.
Need Help?
Doctors are notoriously bad at seeking help, but it is a key part of professionalism and maintaining a healthy, enjoyable career. This page provides some ideas as to where to look for help when you need it. Your need may be simply for someone to talk over career or learning plans, or it may be something more serious. Whichever, the phrase "Doctor, heal thyself" is very bad advice.
Official Bodies
Government Bodies, Unions and Associations that provide direction, guidance and support for our profession, including Trainees, Principals, Salaried Doctors and Locums.
Guidelines and Evidence Based Medicine
With new and changing guidance being issued at an ever increasing rate, web-based resources are the easiest way to ensure you are up to date.
Search for Clinical Information Online
General and Specifically Medical Resources. Never heard of that Syndrome? Want to know more about a disease?
Resources for use in the Consultation
Patient leaflets, photos and diagrams can enhance patient understanding and care. Quick searches can enhance diagnostic accuracy or provide up to date treatment advice. Also includes links to useful online calculator tools.
Tools for Identifying Learning Needs
Whether you are starting your Registrar year, or planning your Personal Development Plans and appraisal, identifying learning needs is and essential first step. Without help, you may not realise what you don’t know.
News and Education
Online GP education resources and current medical news.
Useful Books
Primarily aimed at Registrars, this list also includes some gems for the established GP’s bookshelf.
Teaching and Training Resources
Useful for both GP trainers and trainees. Click on the link to access a variety of helpful resources for training.
Prescribing
A variety of online resources to support good prescribing practice.
