Wessex 2009 GP Induction and Refresher Scheme
The Wessex Deanery is now able to offer a limited number of places on its 2009 Induction and Refresher (I&R) Scheme. This scheme was previously known as The GP Returners Programme.
The I&R Scheme is intended for all fully qualified GPs on the GMC General Practice Register who for a number of reasons are currently unable to gain entry on to a PCT’s Medical Performers List (MPL).
The purpose of the GP Induction and Refresher Scheme is to assess these doctors’ training needs, provide a suitable retraining and induction programme to allow entry on to the PCT MPL and a return to NHS general practice.
For doctors to apply to the Wessex I&R scheme and gain a funded training place the following conditions apply. They must:
Due to the limited funding available all eligible GPs will have to undergo the entrance assessments and compete for a salaried induction post.
Doctors applying for the GP Induction and Refresher Scheme must state their intention to work in a substantive (though not necessarily full-time) NHS GP post after completing their induction or refresher training.
The aims and eligibility criteria are detailed in the GP Induction and Refresher Guidelines on the NESC website (www.nesc.nhs.uk).

If you would like more information regarding the scheme, please send a CV and copy of the GMC GP Register certificate to Dr Richard Weaver, General Practice School Wessex Deanery.
