Each Trust will run their own Induction Program.

The induction will provide you with
all of the relevant information to ensure a smooth start to your rotation.

Induction in Hospital Trusts for ST1 and 2 Trainee’s

All trainee’s need to have appropriate inductions and there may be several of them occurring at a time, when a Trainee moves jobs/specialties/trusts etc. 

Potentially there are a number of different inductions occurring in any year for a Trainee. These include:

Wessex Deanery General Educational Induction (run by the Deanery).

HoS Speciality Induction about training in the Speciality.

Trust Induction, all about Health and safety etc in the Trust

Post induction, all about working in that speciality in that trust in that department

Department induction, all about the unit, team staff etc

And the GP Trainee may also have:

Patch GP Inductions

During your first week in practice it's likely that you will be observing how the practice works. This will usually involve:-
  • Sitting in and observing surgeries
  • Observing practice nurse clinics
  • Going out with District nurses/Health visitors
  • Observing receptionists roles
  • Time with the practice manager
You will also need to complete some paperwork:-
  • Educational agreement
  • Contract
