There is a requirement for OOH work to be done during ST1 or ST2 placements in GP practices-this is in addition to your working week.  The requirement is to undertake 36hrs over the 6m placement, ideally in sessions of 4 hours.

This is an opportunity to experience and learn about OOH services for patients in a variety of setting provided by a variety of professionals other than that provided by UCS.  You can discuss local contacts for opportunities and services with your trainer.  For example:-
  • With the Ambulance service
  • In a Darzi Centre,
  • With the Mental Health Crisis intervention service
  • Social Services out of hours team
  • Twilight nursing team
  • Community Palliative care team
  • In a secondary care setting-with approval of your trainer/Educational supervisor-eg Acute Paediatric assessment ward.

The Deanery Guidance on OOH is an essential read for ALL trainees.

record form of each session attended must be completed and signed by your supervisor, and a running log must also be updated and uploaded to the ePortfolio.
