Trainer: Dr Graham Moyse MB ChB MRCGP

The surgery is part of a large group practice consisting of 4 sites, all of which are Training Practices in their own right. Graham has been a partner at the Practice since 1991 and a trainer since 1996. He was himself a trainee at the site from 1986-87 when he trained under Dr David Graham, now retired. We pride ourselves in being a training practice, where all GPs and staff have an important role in the delivery of GP training. Dr Moyse takes the lead role but other GPs enthusiastically support the trainer and the trainee, including delivering tutorials on specific subjects and helping the trainee out with any immediate issues or problems. Dr Moyse undertakes regular, if fairly infrequent, out of hours work which facilitates this aspect of training for the registrar.

About the Practice

The practice has 11,000 patients of very mixed social class and wealth but including some deprived areas. It is on a peninsula and has a virtual monopoly of the local patients, who have to cross a lifting bridge to access central Poole. We are a busy practice with relatively high consultation rates as befits a younger and more deprived population than the Dorset norm. We have 3 full time and 2 half time partners. We also have an 8 session salaried doctor, herself a recent ex-trainee. Additionally we have a Nurse Practitioner who deals with most “on the day” cases. Additionally we have a full PHCT based in the building including Practice Nurses, Health Visitors and District Nurses. The Adam Practice, both at Hamworthy and the other sites is a progressive practice that has always been keen to try out new ideas. We currently have our own in house GPSI ophthalmology and paediatric clinics. We also score very highly on the ‘Quality and Outcomes Framework’.

Special Interests

As outlined above. Dr Moyse is the Executive Partner with Administrative responsibilities, the group convenor for the Poole Trainers group and the practice respiratory lead. Within the practice we also have the Poole Central locality lead and an LMC representative. All Adam Practice partners lead on a specific clinical area. Hamworthy GPs lead on Mental Health, Hypertension, Asthma and Cancer. We also run Well Woman Clinics and are piloting ‘Healthcheck’ clinics and lifestyle coaching.
